More smartphones then regular phones sold in Q1

For the first time in Russia, sales of smartphones exceeded those of regular mobile phones in the first quarter of 2013, RIA Novosti reports, citing a research from IDC. The study says our of the total 418.6 million mobile phones sold, smartphone accounted for slightly more than a half (216.2 m).

The list of smartphone sales is topped by Samsung, with 70.7 m gadgets sold, followed by Apple (37.4 m), LG (10.3 m), Huawei (9.9 m) and ZTE (9.1 m). Apple's rate of sales growth was slowest among all manufacturers, with only 6.6% more iPhones sold in Q1 2013 than in the same period of 2012.

A similar chart for all types of mobile phones still leaves Samsung the leader, with the second position taken by Nokia, and third - by Apple. Nokia's sales, however, have dropped by 25.1% compared to Q1 2012.
