Internet advertising reaches 19% of the market

Experts of the Russian Association of Communication Agencies (AKAR) have revealed the country's advertising market results in the first quarter of 2013. Total market value exceeded 70 billion rubles (roughly $2.2 bn.), up 14% from Q1 2012.

All market segments but printed media have shown positive dynamics. As in past years, Internet advertising was the fastest-growing segment, increasing by 32%. On the Internet, contextual ads were thriving, with a growth rate of 38%.

Aggregate value of all advertising placed on the Internet in Q1 2013 reached 13.3 bn. rubles (approx. $420 m.), of which 10.3 bn rubles comes from contextual ads, and the remaining 3 m from screen ads.

Major Russian Internet companies, most of whose income is derived from advertising, have earlier reported good results, too. Yandex said its income in Q1 increased by 79% compared to the same period of 2012. Another giant, Mail.ru Group, said that growth rate of screen ads are gradually recovering after a long period of decline.
